The Aleurone Gallery

Time course of Calcium response in a living, functioining barley aleurone cell as it responds to the hormone gibberellic acid (times are in hours). A protoplast has been loaded with an indicator for cytoplasmic calcium and imaged using confocal microscopy

Movie of the 3-dimensional nature of the calcium signal in a barley aleurone protoplast.

A protoplast has been loaded with a reporter for cytoplasmic calcium levels and then has been optically sectioned using the confocal microscope and a 3-d view of half of it constructed. The brighter the region of the cell, the higher the calcium is.
